Grown as a winter annual on otherwise fallow land, pennycress avoids displacement of food and feed crops while providing living soil cover during the winter months. This efficient use of existing farmland lowers lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions and positions pennycress as a strong feedstock for low-carbon fuel pathways under government incentive programs (LCFS, 45Z, and the RFS).
